Nathan Wilson Edwina and Sam Friedman have agreed to donate six acres of land on Highway 1 Bypass to new animal welfare organization Friends All United for Natchitoches Animals(FAUNA) for construction of a pet adoption and community center. This marks the first milestone for FAUNA’s mission to improve animal welfare for the city and parish…
The Friedmans have provided homes to countless rescue animals, and they have supported Natchitoches Hope for Paws and Natchitoches Humane Society for more than two decades. Their donation represents an endorsement for the two organizations’ goal to unite to form FAUNA.
Louisiana ranks sixth in the nation for shelter deaths according to 2021 data released by animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal Society. FAUNA’s objectives are to move Natchitoches from a 55% kill rate to a no or low kill rate while providing a clean, safe and humane environment for animals to be housed until they can be adopted. FAUNA’s plan is to provide education, robust spay and neuter programs, and increased adoption and foster opportunities at the new pet adoption and community center.
