MARTINSVILLE — A local nonprofit is on a mission to ensure every child in Martinsville and surrounding communities has a bed to sleep on.

It has been a little over a year since Co-President Ed Hacker founded a Martinsville-based chapter for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national organization dedicated to providing beds for children that don’t have access to one.

The local chapter is part of a larger national organization that is responsible for building over 60,000 beds nationwide. Sleep in Heavenly Peace features nearly 100,000 volunteers and over 200 chapters located around the country.

With a motto bearing the words, “No kid Sleeps on The Floor in Our Town!”, Hacker and a group of volunteers, businesses and community stakeholders provide brand-new twin beds to kids between the ages of 3 and 17 throughout the area.
