‘Don’t ever give up’: Pensacola federal judge Roger Vinson fights terminal cancer

Oncologists told the judge he would never survive the summer. But Vinson still drives himself every week to the downtown Pensacola courthouse.

Senior U.S. District Court Judge Roger Vinson knows his time on earth is running out.

Vinson, 82, of Pensacola, has been a power player in the U.S. justice system at both the local and national level for decades.

As federal judge, he once signed an order that threatened the existence of Obamacare and signed off on another document — later unsealed by Edward Snowden — allowing the National Security Agency unprecedented access to citizens’ cellphone data.

Now, Vinson is battling prostate cancer and received a prognosis last June that he had less than three months left to live.
