Nonprofit provides literacy support for kids

Book Babies is a program based in Durham

A nonprofit based in the Bull City continues to provide literacy support to families with young children.

“Book Babies,” a program of Book Harvest, provides free books and literacy coaching from birth until a child enters kindergarten.

The Ellington family says the program has helped their 3-year-old son Jason form a love for reading.

“It was a lot of hands-on, experience-based advice that I received just on being a mother and also with things I could do to help him  in many different ways,” said Jason’s mom, Chanelle Ellington. “They really have helped guide us on how to read with him so we kind of follow the guidelines of at least 15 minutes a day.”
