GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A local 10-year-old younger brother spent their summer this year collecting pop cans and fundraising because they wanted people in need to have a chance to enjoy their favorite food — pizza.
When the Graves brothers saw a homeless man panhandling on a family vacation, they became inspired to raise money to help people in need. It was also important for the two boys to make sure homeless people could celebrate their birthday, said their mother, Abby Graves.
On Friday, Aug. 18, Caleb, 10, and Jacob, 7, proudly held up a check for $1,579 in Degage Ministries kitchen in front of 30 pizzas that Peppino’s ended up donating. The donated pizzas fed about 100 people at Degage, said ministry workers.
With pizza provided for free, the money Caleb and Jacob raised will go toward the ministry’s food and birthday celebrations hosted monthly for their patrons, Abby Graves said.
