Community rallies for Rhyan, 6-year-old Columbia girl undergoing another cancer treatment

Rhyan Loos, 6, whose 15-month battle against cancer has generated widespread support, is expected home Saturday for a second Rally for Rhyan during the Missouri-Arkansas men’s basketball game.

Rhyan, the daughter of assistant basketball coach Brad Loos and his wife, Jen, has been in New York intermittently for treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center since March 2016. In October 2015, Rhyan was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a cancer typically found in developing nerve cells, usually in children under 10 years of age.

After surgery, therapies and other medical procedures, she was cancer-free for six months. Then, in November, she suffered a relapse and returned to New York. In the weeks after the relapse, she had another surgery to remove a brain tumor, followed by radiation treatments and chemotherapy.
