Heads shaved in Avon for a good cause

More than $15,000 was raised by courageous students at Holy Trinity School who had their heads shaved for charity.

On May 23, Holy Trinity School hosted its fourth annual “Rock the Challenge” event.  In years past, Rock the Challenge (RTC) was a fundraising event for the school, with only a portion of the proceeds benefitting a philanthropic cause such as Chardon High School, Youth Challenge and Meredith’s Mission, which supports research to cure type 2 diabetes.

This year, Holy Trinity decided to benefit a charity with the entire proceeds—with none of it going to the school. The lucky recipient chosen was the Westhaven Warriors, a Rocky River based team that raises money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Founders of the Westhaven Warriors, Eric and Amy Haddad, are the parents of Shane, a 10 year old boy who was diagnosed in January 2010, at the age of three, with brain and spinal cord cancer. He underwent surgery  and then had a year of chemotherapy, as well as seven weeks of radiation and a second surgery. He is  stable at this time.
