A third-grade class at Delphi Elementary School adopted a local boy with cancer as their class super hero Thursday.
Four-year-old Carter Allen was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer in 2015. In the past few months, Lori Schwarzkopf’s class has been raising money for Carter’s Relay for Life team.
The students set a goal of $500. But with the help of the entire school, they raised over $1,100.
Carter’s mother, Misty Allen, treated the class to a pizza party as the class met Carter, their “super hero,” for the first time Thursday.
“It has been amazing. We were so surprised and honored when we found out,” Allen said. “It’s definitely given him that extra push during his treatment that he sometimes needed.”
Carter has gone through multiple types of chemotherapy. According to his tests in February, his cancer cells have shrunk significantly. Carter will go through more tests later this month to see if he is cancer free.
