It’s the one day of the year when fans can celebrate Disney’s (formerly George Lucas’) hugely popular film franchise together and greet each other with a jaunty “May the 4th be with you.”
To celebrate, Summerside tattoo parlour Artist’s Ink. is setting the whole day aside to do only Star Wars-themed tattoos, and is donating all the proceeds to Summerside youth club, Generation XX.
They thought it would be a fun way to celebrate Star Wars Day and give a little something back to the community, said Aron Scott, one of the resident artists.
“We’ve all tattooed Star Wars stuff – done some pretty big pieces over the years actually. Half sleeves, stuff like that. I think there’s enough draw there that we’ll be full that day,” said Scott.
The idea came from the parlour’s owner, Cary Baker, he added.
“He’s a huge Star Wars fan, as you can tell by the décor,” said Scott, gesturing around the store’s new location at 6 Queen Street.
The studio is full of Star Wars and other science fiction and fantasy memorabilia, complete with a life-size stormtrooper in one corner, shelves of action figures and walls covered in comic book art.
Anyone looking to contribute to the cause and get a tattoo can stop by Artists Ink from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 4. They are not taking appointments, though they will set up a queue as customers walk in.
